Grand Cayman Shopping: Everyday Stuff!
Grand Cayman shopping isn’t just about
Columbian emeralds
and souvenirs, pleasurable as those things are. Most of
us find eating every meal in restaurants a bit too rich
and welcome the simpler things in life once in a while.
This page is about where to find the basics, food and
other supplies.
The two groups to mention here are Fosters and Hurleys.
Both run supermarkets that provide all your needs and
with a Caribbean flavor. So, as most
resorts’
rooms provide some kitchen area, you can start your day with cereals and toast, or whatever works for you.
The two chains also provide prepared food bars, which are
a cost-effective way of trying Caribbean dishes. I found
these great for lunch — I think I mentioned my love of
Caribbean food.
Fosters has a big location right at the airport so,
depending on the time you arrive, you may want to stock
up on simple stuff like coffee on your way to your resort.
Their other locations are:
The Strand Plaza at Seven Mile Beach
The Republix at West Bay
Countryside Shopping Village in the Savannah district
and their newest location, an express store, in the East End
right across from the Reef and Morritts resorts.
Hurleys has a fine new store at the Heron Harbour Plaza on
Crewe Road, just before it merges into Red Bay Road as you
head out to the east.
If you want a more holiday-like experience to your daily
grocery shopping, there are plenty of roadside stalls
selling everything from local fruit and vegetables to
home-produced jerk chicken and pork.
Two popular stalls are Willy’s on the road out of
George Town (heading to the East End) and Rankin’s Jerk
Centre in Bodden Town farther along the same road. In
George Town, Seymour’s Jerk Centre is handily placed on
Shedden Rd.
