Scooter rentals have become a popular way of getting around the islands, more fun (or less work, maybe:) than a bicycle but not so impersonal as a car or bus where you’re cocooned in a metal world.
The warm Caribbean wind in your face (not in your hair, helmets are a must), the scent of the islands and sea, are all part of the joy of riding a scooter.
And don’t forget your resort will likely have bikes you can rent or borrow and they’ll arrange rentals on other transportation too.
Some places that rent scooters in or around 7 Mile Beach are:
Cayman Cycle Rentals at Coconut Place (345/945-4021) and Treasure island Resort (345/949-7777)
Island Scooter Rental (345/949-2046) on North Sound Road(I have them on my Getting Around page too)
Soto’s Scooters and Car Fun Rentals 345) 945-4652
Bicycles are, however, even more environmentally friendly than scooters and they have some advantages.
For example, you get to work off all that good food and drink you’re enjoying at your resort, you can get off the road easily if things turn ugly, you can park them anywhere, and they’re cheap to rent. The ideal island transport really.
A place that rents bikes in the Seven Mile Beach region is:
Cayman Cycle Rentals at Coconut Place, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman, or Treasure Island Resort
Some cautionary notes on two wheelers, and I’m not trying to put you off, scooters and bikes are a great way to get about but do keep these things in mind:
That said, the best way to avoid all those difficulties is to stay around the West End where the roads are paved, avoid rush hour (you probably weren’t planning to be up for the morning one anyhow 🙂 and take it easy!
You’re on vacation so relax and enjoy it!
