Georgetown Grand Cayman Photos

We’ve set aside a separate page for Georgetown Grand Cayman photos because George Town is the Capital City of the Cayman Islands and the heart of the busy West End of the city. Views of the town will go a long way to helping you imagine yourself there.

This first picture was taken on North Church street watching the cruise ship people head off sightseeing. It’s the large version of the one on the shopping page. Most of the week, you won’t see a traffic jam but that all changes when the cruise ships arrive.

Thousands of people descend on the shops and bars (in this case Margaritaville) of downtown turning it into a madhouse.

Georgetown Grand Cayman Photos – Harbor and Waterfront

The next picture is a photo of the waterfront at night. We were returning from the night dive on the submarine when we took this picture. The lights of downtown are a comforting sight from out at sea.

The picture below is North Church Street taken from Hog Sty Bay and the Atlantis dock for the submarine and semi-submersible.

The following photo is of Bayshore Mall on the waterfront and South Church Street. Bayshore has lots of duty-free shopping and restaurants to tempt cruise ship visitors, as well as regular fly-in visitors.

Another place to buy gifts for yourself, family and friends — the Cayman Craft Market. Here you’ll find the hand-made items that remind you of your stay — much better than the ‘made in china’ gifts ever can.

Another popular bar and restaurant on the waterfront is Hard Rock Cafe, which is so well known all around the world it needs no introduction from me:-)

Here’s the quieter side of Hog Sty Bay. As you might have guessed, I take photos when it’s quiet — usually early morning when vacationers are still in bed or on the beach.

The Cayman Islands National Museum is in the elegant heritage house on the waterfront.

Fort George

And pretty well all that’s left of the original George Town, Fort George, is these cannon and some parts of the stone walls. The rest has been robbed for building materials long ago — when the Caribbean became a safe place to live, I guess.

Cruise Ships in the Bay

Some Disney Magic at George Town, Grand Cayman, along with the Star Princess and a tender. In the foreground is the Atlantis Adventures semi-submersible.

If you’re visiting the island from a cruise ship, you’re likely to land from a tender even with the new larger dock. The good news is the approaches to the harbor are also protected by the reef and the sea is generally calm.
